We are looking on behalf of our client, for an Associate. You will assist senior practitioners with the management of complex client case work and transactions, dealing with queries from clients and assisting in all legal matters. You will also handle your own matters (with moderate supervision) ensuring that the firm’s clients receive an exceptional level of client service.
Responsibilities and tasks include, but are not limited to:
Commercial/Private Client focused practitioners:
- Play a key role in transactions, leading workstreams on larger matters and managing smaller transactions in line with experience.
- Provide bespoke legal advice and planning solutions to Gibraltar-based and international clients.
- Develop practical, commercially focused solutions through legal analysis, research, and sound judgement.
- Implement client advice, working closely with internal teams and external tax and legal advisers where required.
- Draft and review legal documentation to a high standard, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
- Assess legal advice for compliance and risk, challenging assumptions where appropriate.
- Liaise with third-party intermediaries such as bankers, financial advisers, and trustees on behalf of clients.
Litigation focused practitioners:
- Analyse and investigate litigation matters, developing case theories and legal arguments.
- Carry out detailed legal research and draft high-quality legal documents, including pleadings, witness statements, and expert reports.
- Support all stages of litigation, including preparing and reviewing motions, briefs, discovery, and trial preparation.
- Appear regularly before the Gibraltar Courts and tribunals, conducting summary trials and small claims, attending case management and pre-trial hearings, and acting as junior counsel in Supreme Court jury trials.
- Work as part of a dedicated criminal law and criminal defence team.
- Develop and implement case strategies in collaboration with senior practitioners.
- Prepare legal correspondence and maintain accurate, well-organised case files.
- Provide regular updates to senior practitioners and clients on case progress.
- Attend client meetings, conduct client and witness interviews, and provide legal advice.
- Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, and settlement discussions where required.
General:
- Maintain up-to-date legal knowledge to deliver high-quality, current advice.
- Build strong client relationships and contribute to business development initiatives.
- Work collaboratively across teams to provide integrated legal solutions.
- Support compliance and risk processes, including KYC and AML checks.
- Manage client matters from start to finish, including scoping, billing, and updates.
- Supervise junior team members where required.
- Ensure compliance with professional conduct and accounts rules.
- Manage time recording, WIP, and financial targets efficiently.
Requirements:
- Lawyer with 2-4 PQE in relevant practice areas
- Approved, admitted and enrolled as a Barrister or Solicitor in Gibraltar
- Sound intellectual skills evidenced by a strong academic background
- In-depth legal knowledge, including relevant legislation, case law, and industry standards.
- Proven success in delivering solution focused advice to clients
