Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the main point of contact with GFSC (and other regulatory bodies, as needed) and support inspections, submissions, and reporting requirements.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate regulatory and financial crime compliance risks across the European operations.
  • Draft, update, and implement compliance-related policies, procedures, and guidelines, ensuring alignment with both local laws and group standards.
  • Prepare and deliver the annual Compliance Plan, ensuring it is executed within agreed timeframes, and report progress and findings to the Boards of Directors.
  • Conduct second line reviews (compliance and AML/CFT reviews), ensuring corrective actions are followed through.
  • Monitor, interpret, and communicate regulatory developments, advising business units and boards on implications and necessary actions.
  • Develop and deliver compliance, AML/CFT, and data protection training for staff to promote a strong compliance culture.
  • Compile and submit internal and external compliance reports, including regulatory filings and board reports.
  • Work closely with the Group Compliance function to ensure alignment with global frameworks while tailoring for European operations.
  • Provide hands-on support to business units, offering practical, solution-focused compliance guidance.
  • Deliver practical and user-friendly compliance advice that supports business operations while ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Ensure frameworks and controls are consistently applied across Gibraltar and Malta, while accommodating local requirements.
  • Build effective working relationships with regulators, boards, and internal stakeholders to foster trust and confidence in the compliance function.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Gibraltar regulatory frameworks, keeping entities updated on changes.
  • Achieve agreed annual compliance objectives and performance measures.

Requirements:

  • At least 5 years’ compliance experience within financial services, ideally insurance, with previous MLRO or Deputy MLRO responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of Gibraltar regulatory and AML/CFT frameworks; familiarity with Malta and wider EU requirements is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with regulators, including preparing submissions and supporting inspections.
  • Hands-on experience drafting and implementing compliance policies, procedures, and monitoring frameworks.
  • Relevant professional compliance or AML qualifications (e.g., ICA, ACAMS) preferred.
  • High ethical standards, professional integrity, and resilience, with a practical, solution-focused approach.
  • Collaborative and adaptable, with the ability to influence, build trust, and work effectively across Gibraltar and Malta operations.
