    The Accountant role is responsible for the regular and prompt preparation of high quality financial statements for a portfolio of clients consisting of Trusts, Companies (including large inter-linked Groups) and Partnerships as part of the Firm’s provision of fiduciary services.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

    Responsibilities and tasks include, but are not limited to, the core areas described below:

    • Maintain accounting records in the client entity database (Viewpoint)
    • Ensure the provision of accurate and timely financial statements prepared in accordance with relevant accounting standards for specific companies and trusts for audit and/or submission direct to the client and regulatory authorities
    • Deals with resulting queries and accounting review points from third parties
    • Preparation of tax returns as appropriate.
    • Maintain loan, interest, income and expense schedules
    • Ensure that you have a comprehensive understanding of the transactions you are dealing with
    • Ensure accounting procedure queries can be answered by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulation
    • Be fully conversant with a computerised accounting system and maintain a good knowledge of spreadsheet applications
    • Ensure client expectations and accounting deadlines are properly managed
    • Calculate the corporate management trust and accounts preparation fees of companies and trusts administered
    • Provide information to Clients, Auditors and other third parties in a professional manner
    • Advise and liaise with the Firm’s lawyers and Company and Trust administration staff with regard to the accounting needs of clients
    • Keep up to date with legislative changes (Tax Act, Companies Act, Insolvency Act) and Financial Reporting Standards (e.g. new UK GAAP and changes to IFRS’s).
    • Recommend improvements to processes and procedures in areas of efficiency, control, and work quality.
    • Undertake any other duties that are within the employee’s skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.

    Candidate requirements:

    • Qualified Accountant (ACCA, ACA)
    • Sound intellectual skills evidenced by a strong academic background, preferably to graduate level or equivalent combination of A-levels, further training and experience.  Must hold at least 5 GCSEs (A-C) or equivalent, to include Maths and English.
    • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
    • Experience in an accountancy or financial services environment.
    • Experience of dealing with complex and detailed financial information.
    • Detailed knowledge of accounting standards (IFRS, UK GAAP) and concepts
    • Experience of providing technical support to, coaching and appraising team members
    • Able to make reasoned and objective decisions based on sound accounting knowledge.
    • Highly proficient in relevant accounting software
    • Advanced knowledge of MS Office suite – Excel and Outlook essential.
    • Experience of Viewpoint would be an advantage.
    • Able to successfully form, build, develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with people from a wide range of personal and professional backgrounds.
    • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Demonstrates excellent analytical skills including ability to analyse complex data sets and a logical approach to problem solving.
    • Demonstrates awareness of the importance of client confidentiality.
    • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative
    • Able to efficiently prioritise and manage workload of self and others to meet tight deadlines.
