Senior Underwriting Manager

Our client is a leading insurance provider worldwide.  They are seeking to recruit a Senior Underwriting Manager, to form part of their insurance team, with the primary responsibility for the general insurance needs of captive or insurance companies, procedure setting, compliance with general regulation and to assist the General Manager in the supervision of staff and management of clients.

About the role

  • Supervision of the team, for their day-to-day administration duties, including assisting with aspects of identifying and fulfilling their training and development needs
  • Co-ordinate the team to meet deadlines
  • Responsible for staff appraisals
  • Responsible for the delivery of a high-quality service, ensuring that all client service standards are met for the client base
  • Review of various insurance documentation including policies, reinsurance agreements and endorsements
  • Discussing and liaising with the Finance Manager with respect to any renewals, invoicing or claims issue
  • Review of reconciliation of claims payments, premiums and reinsurance recoveries
  • Liaison with auditors giving necessary explanations of insurance structures or policies
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of captive matters
  • Attendance at Board Meetings, including the presentation of insurance reports
  • Following the Office Procedures Manual, in relation to check lists, supporting information, authorisations, sign-offs and time scales
  • Ensuring that subordinates follow the Office Procedures Manual
  • Awareness and compliance with the Insurance Business Act (1998), subsequent Regulations and Rules issued by the FSC
  • Work on applications and scheme of operations for new clients or new lines of business of existing clients
  • Work on ad-hoc reports for clients or group as and when necessary
  • Interaction with various people in a professional manner
  • Primary relationships to be developed and maintained are as follows:
  • Clients, client representatives and Board members
  • Auditors
  • Insurance/Reinsurance brokers
  • Insurance/Reinsurance Companies
  • FSC and other regulatory authorities

As a Senior Underwriting Manager, you will ideally need to:

  • Experience within general insurance on the underwriting or technical side
  • High degree of confidentiality
  • Leadership, supervisory and presentation skills
  • Excellent all-round communicator at all levels
  • Recognised Insurance qualification would be desirable
  • Good general knowledge of industry products, regulations and developments
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of accountancy, business and IT software
