Operational Risk Manager

Our client is an international financial institution with main offices in Gibraltar, currently in the final stage of applying for full banking and investment services licences in Gibraltar. They are looking for candidates for the Operational Risk Manager position in the Risk Management Department.

The main duties of the Operational Risk Manager will focus on developing, maintaining and coordinating implementation of operational risk policies and standards for risk management in line with the business strategy and regulatory requirements, as well as monitoring and reporting operational risk exposure and investigating root causes of key operational risks. As a member of the Risk Management Department you will be working with other teams across the Bank, in particular Finance and Treasury Division, and will report directly to the Head of Risk Management.

Key responsibilities:

  • Developing, maintaining and coordinating implementation of operational risk policies and standards for risk management
  • Coordinating operational risk identification and assessment in cooperation with business units, assisting business units in identifying and evaluating risk areas and developing key risk indicators
  • Investigating root causes of key operational risks and providing support to mitigate those risks
  • Developing strategic plan to prevent, eliminate and mitigate key operational risks
  • Tracking and monitoring operating risk issues for business units
  • Reporting operational risk issues and decisions to senior management on regular basis
  • Coordinating with senior management in performing operational risk reviews
  • Preparing operational risk management reports and liaising with the Regulatory Reporting Team with regard to the operational risk regulatory reporting


  • An academic degree (under- or postgraduate)
  • At least 2 years of work experience in operational risk management area, of which at least 1 year of experience in a financial institution
  • Strong knowledge of operational risk assessment techniques and processes with the ability to implement strategic change
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the regulatory requirements and reporting framework for operational risk (CRD/CRR/EBA requirements)
  • Deep knowledge of financial products and associated risks will be an advantage
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
