Middle Office Specialist

Our client is an international financial institution with main offices in Gibraltar, currently in the final stage of applying for full banking and investment services licences in Gibraltar. They are looking for candidates for the Middle Office Specialist position in the Risk Management Department.

The main duties of the Middle Office Specialist will focus on providing standard risk monitoring and an independent oversight of credit risk, market risk and liquidity risk management of the Treasury Department, as well as sourcing and validating independent and relevant market data for valuations and risk modelling.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provides standard risk monitoring based on predefined reports, in particular risk limits monitoring,
  • Contributes to the independent oversight of credit risk, market risk and liquidity risk management of the Treasury Department,
  • Defines data required for effective risk management processes and takes part in the implementation of appropriate IT systems and databases supporting those processes, develops simple tools supporting risk assessment and monitoring,
  • Sources and validates independent and relevant market data for valuations and risk modelling,
  • Assists with responding to regulatory and auditor requests concerning risk management,
  • Contributes to the development and implementing of the risk management policies and procedures with regard to the risk modelling, monitoring and reporting,
  • Takes reasonable actions, which include challenging of the results, to prevent avoidable errors and mistakes in the reports produced.

Requirements:

  • At least 1 year of work experience in Middle Office in a bank (preferred) or related position in a financial institution or related services
  • University degree, preferably in Finance or quantitative subject or a postgraduate degree (mathematical background would be an advantage)
  • Sound knowledge of the financial analysis (such as discounting cash flows) and financial instruments
  • Knowledge of market and liquidity risk metrics as well as regulatory requirements and reporting framework
  • Deeper knowledge of financial products and associated risks will be an advantage
  • Strong technical and analytical skills, attention to detail
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools, MS Excel modelling in particular (experience in SQL and VBA programming will be an advantage)
  • Good command of written and spoken English, including financial vocabulary
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
