Credit Risk Specialist

Our client is an international financial institution with main offices in Gibraltar, currently in the final stage of applying for full banking and investment services licences in Gibraltar. They are looking for candidates for the Credit Risk Specialist position in the Risk Management Department.

The main duties of the Credit Risk Specialist will focus on supporting the Credit Risk Manager in developing, implementing and maintaining an effective credit risk policy and procedures in line with the business strategy and regulatory requirements, as well as assessing, monitoring and reporting credit risk exposure and applicable limits. As a member of the Risk Management Department, you will be working with other teams across the Bank, in particular Finance and Treasury Division, and will report to the Credit Risk Manager.

Key responsibilities:

  • Developing, implementing and maintaining an effective credit risk policy and procedures in line with business strategy and regulatory requirements.
  • Managing credit risk for different classes of credit exposures within the banking book.
  • Developing, implementing and maintaining credit ratings for the selected credit classes.
  • Assessing and monitoring key counterparties and credit exposures.
  • Monitoring the nature and the structure of credit exposures, concentration of credit risk, usage of internal and external exposure and concentration limits, exposures to counterparties with increased credit risk, performing credit risk stress tests to assess risk tolerances by reviewing how varying default scenarios may adversely affect the company‚Äôs earnings and capital.
  • Suggesting appropriate exposure and concentration limits, acceptable terms of credit exposures and, whenever necessary, recommending additional credit risk mitigation techniques.
  • Preparing credit risk management reports in cooperation with Middle Office Team and liaising with Regulatory Reporting Team with regard to the credit risk regulatory reporting.


  • An academic degree (under- or postgraduate), preferably in risk management, finance, economics, quantitative science.
  • At least 2 years of work experience in credit risk management in a bank.
  • A knowledge of credit risk assessment techniques and processes.
  • A knowledge of the regulatory requirements and reporting framework for credit risk (CRD/CRR/EBA requirements) will be an advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills and a knowledge of financial products and associated risks.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools, MS Excel in particular.
  • Good command of written and spoken English, including financial vocabulary.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritise.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
