Client Accountant

CLIENT ACCOUNTANT role for an established trust company due to expansion and growth. The role reports to the Head of Client Accounting and is focused on preparing high quality statutory financial accounts, tax computations and returns plus management information for a growing portfolio of clients. Recognised Accounting Qualifications would be of assistance, but the key requirement is experience and a demonstrated ability in a similar role and the ability to “hit the ground running.”

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Preparation of Statutory accounts, tax returns and management information for clients and client entities. Ensuring deadlines met thereon.
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts on excel or accounting software.
  • Assisting internal finance functions and performing financial control functions for clients.
  • Working with and assisting other departments with client matters with regards to accounting and financial services and to ensure service to clients is delivered in a timely manner.
  • Monthly payroll for clients.
  • Maintaining client relationships relating to financial matters.
  • To provide clients with advice, information, and reports concerning the accounting information relevant to their company and or trust.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time.

Key skills and qualifications

  • AAT qualified or equivalent qualification/qualified by experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of client accounting experience within the financial services sector.
  • Excellent double entry bookkeeping knowledge.
  • Excellent grasp of bookkeeping both via accounting software and using a tradition “extended trial balance” with manual (excel) cashbooks, supporting schedules and journals.
  • Good understanding of Gibraltar Financial Reporting Standards and Gibraltar GAAP or UK equivalent.
  • Good Knowledge of Gibraltar domestic taxation both Corporate and Personal.
  • Good understanding of Gibraltar’s filing and statutory administrative requirements.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work under pressure, work to and manage tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently but also as part of a team.
  • Excellent IT skills particular use of excel and ideally Sage or a similar bookkeeping package.
  • Experience of any other accounting systems useful.
  • Desire to excel and to help others around you do the same.

Beneficial but not essential

  • Understanding of and accounting for multi layered structures.
  • Knowledge of Trust Accounting.
  • Consolidation experience.
  • Fund accounting.
  • Accounting for pensions.
