Breakdown of costs
Many companies feel that agencies are expensive and not cost effective. Let us break this down for you.
- You have a vacancy that needs to be filled
- You need to place an advert with the ETB. This will take person hours
- You place an advert in the Gibraltar Chronicle costing £400. This appears only once, therefore you could be missing out on a substantial amount of applicants, so you will need to advertise again, costing you a further £400.
- Not all your target audience live in Gibraltar, so you will not be achieving maximum candidate attraction
- You then take two hours out of your day to sift through the fifty applications that you received. This will cost you two person hours and two hours salary.
- Once you have sifted through the CV’s, each applicant needs to be contacted.
- You telephone all the successful applicants, inviting them to interview. This will take two more person hours and two more hours salary.
- You will then need to write to all of the unsuccessful applicants, taking a further two person hours and two more hours salary.
- You will then need to interview candidates.
- Say for example you have whittled them down to six applicants. This will be around eight hours of interviewing time, for yourself and possibly a another interviewer. This totals sixteen person hours and sixteen hours salary.
- You will then need to discuss the applicants interview, taking another two person hours and another two hours salary, for two people.
- Once decided, you will then need to contact the unsuccessful applicants, taking one further person hour and one further hour of salary.
- Second interviews need to be conducted and you have whittled the list down to three candidates
- Second interviews will last about half an hour each and are usually conducted by two people. This will be a total of three person hours and three salaried hours.
- You will then need to discuss the applicants interview, taking another hour, and will have to write to the unsuccessful candidates.
- Offer letter and contracts need to be drawn up, the advertisement needs to be withdrawn from the ETB.
This process can end up being lengthy and costly.
When using an agency, you will only pay the fee, once the candidate has been placed. All the ETB paperwork, advertising , telephone calls, and letters are completed by the agency.
More and more businesses are turning to agencies for their hiring needs when they lose an employee for one reason or another. It speeds the entire process up and once you have a trusted agency on your list, you can call them up whenever you need to recruit and leave it up to them to choose the right candidate for the position. It saves time and money for your business.
